Fourteen Syracuse University students and alumni have been named as 2024 recipients of awards through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Five students were also chosen as alternates. This is the largest number of U.S. Student Fulbright recipients that Syracuse University has had in one year.

Among the recipients is Jaemon Crosby, an acting major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), who will be pursuing a study award at the United Kingdom's London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). Crosby aims to bring diversity to the world of classical acting by reimagining traditional texts and roles. He expressed his desire to challenge stereotypes and empower Black representation in theatre.

Jessica Hogbin, a Ph.D. student in history at the Maxwell School, will be conducting research in Italy for her dissertation. Her project focuses on the intersection of medicine, mental health, and politics in Renaissance Italy, particularly examining the concept of melancholy. Hogbin looks forward to immersing herself in Italian culture and academia during her Fulbright year.

Lindsay Kernen, a psychology student, will be pursuing a master's degree in work and organizational psychology at the University of Strathclyde Business School in Scotland. Her research will center on the impact of diverse groups on organizational creativity and innovation. Kernen is eager to engage in community-based learning and hopes to advocate for inclusive practices in the workplace.

Julianne Strauss, an English teaching assistant in Spain, aims to promote inclusive education and a love of reading among her students. Having studied in Madrid previously, she is excited to explore the La Rioja region and further enhance her Spanish language skills. Strauss plans to leverage her Fulbright experience to support English language learners in her future teaching endeavors.

These students, along with the other recipients and alternates, represent a diverse array of academic disciplines and research interests. The Fulbright U.S. Student Program continues to provide valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth, fostering cross-cultural exchange and academic excellence.

Students interested in applying to the Fulbright program are encouraged to reach out to the Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising at Syracuse University. The campus deadline for the 2024-25 application cycle is September 10.
