WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) and Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) have taken a firm stance against student loan forgiveness for individuals convicted of crimes during protests on college campuses.

The No Bailouts for Campus Criminals Act, co-led by Rep. Williams and Sen. Cotton, aims to prevent those involved in criminal activities during campus protests from having their student debt cleared through forgiveness programs. A bipartisan effort, the bill has garnered support from several other lawmakers in both the House and the Senate.

In a statement, Representative Williams emphasized the importance of accountability, stating, "Violent campus protestors laughably demand respect, amnesty, and even takeout food. Our bicameral bill ensures that not one student protestor convicted of criminal offenses is bailed out by student loan forgiveness. Not one dime of taxpayer money will fund these criminals."

Senator Cotton echoed these sentiments, highlighting the unfair burden placed on responsible taxpayers, "Americans who never went to college or responsibly paid off their debts shouldn’t have to pay off other people’s student loans. They especially shouldn’t have to pay off the loans of Hamas sympathizers shutting down and defacing campuses."

The bill, supported by Senators Marsha Blackburn, Mike Crapo, Steve Daines, Josh Hawley, Cindy Hyde-Smith, James Risch, Mitt Romney, Tim Scott, Tommy Tuberville, Thom Tillis, and Roger Wicker, aims to address concerns surrounding student loan forgiveness for individuals involved in criminal activities during campus protests.
