In Memoriam: Life Trustee Bernard 'Bernie' Kossar '53, L'55 remembered
Bernard “Bernie” Kossar, a distinguished Syracuse University and College of Law graduate, trustee, advisor, engaged alumnus and generous philanthropist, passed away at the age of 91 on April 10, 2024. Chancellor Kent Syverud remembered him as one of the smartest people he had ever known. "Bernie Kossar was really one of the smartest people I have ever known," said Syverud. "Bernie’s IQ was so high and, with persistence, it was what kept opening up opportunities for him; but it was really his EQ, his emotional intelligence, that made him great."

Saraswati Dhakal, a graduate student in clinical mental health counseling at the School of Education, is transitioning from a career in nursing to become a mental health counselor and advocate. Dhakal's journey began as a transplant coordinator and operation theatre nurse at the Human Organ Transplant Centre in Bhaktapur, Nepal, where she witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by patients with terminal illnesses.In her previous role, Dhakal provided care and counseling to patients, as well as guidance to their families.
