Syracuse — Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) has announced his cosponsorship of the Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024 (H.R. 6929), a bipartisan effort aimed at allocating $7 billion to the Affordable Connectivity Fund. This move comes as the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is facing a funding shortfall, with the initial $14.2 billion allocated in the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law expected to be depleted by April.

In a statement, Congressman Williams emphasized the importance of sustaining the ACP, noting that "Over 23 million households nationwide receive the ACP’s monthly benefit, 1.7 million of which are in New York." He highlighted the impact of the program on families, stating that "Replenishing the ACP’s funding does right by the families relying on it to study, work and communicate."

Furthermore, Congressman Williams warned of the consequences of failing to secure additional funding for the ACP, stating, "If Congress fails to appropriate the necessary funds to keep the ACP going, our most vulnerable communities will be the most heavily impacted."

The ACP plays a crucial role in providing affordable connectivity to millions of households across the country, including supporting programs like Surge Link in Syracuse. Surge Link facilitates access to high-speed broadband for numerous families in Syracuse, thanks to funding from the Federal American Rescue Plan and the ACP.

The Affordable Connectivity Program Extension Act of 2024 seeks to ensure the continuation of vital connectivity services for families and communities in need, underscoring the importance of bipartisan support for initiatives that enhance access to essential resources.
