Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh has announced that the City of Syracuse will be hosting an open house to introduce the Syracuse Housing Strategy, a multi-year framework aimed at improving housing conditions in the city. The open house is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, April 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center located at 716 Hawley Avenue.
Mayor Walsh emphasized that the Syracuse Housing Strategy is a result of community input and the findings of the Syracuse Housing Study. According to the Mayor, the study highlighted that the housing challenges in Syracuse are primarily linked to market and affordability gaps. He stated, "The study revealed that nearly every housing challenge that exists in Syracuse is tied to having either a market or affordability gap."
The Syracuse Housing Strategy aims to address the high cost of rehabilitation and persistently depressed property values that contribute to an unstable housing environment, especially for low-income households. The strategy focuses on reducing both the market and affordability gaps to enhance city neighborhoods.
In furtherance of transparency and accessibility, the City will make the Housing Strategy available online at syracusehousingstudy.com on Wednesday, April 24.
