The Syracuse University Art Museum is set to welcome artist and art historian Josh T Franco for a mini-residency that aims to engage with the community through various activities. The mini-residency, sponsored by Art Bridges, will see Franco activating “Scriptorium con Safos: Syracuse” at the museum and on the Syracuse University campus.

According to Josh T Franco, the artist and art historian himself, the mini-residency will kick off on Thursday, April 4 with a workshop titled “Rocks, Water, Responsibility: Responding to Site.” Franco will collaborate with Kate Holohan, curator of education and academic outreach, to lead this workshop that explores the connections between people, rocks, and water. Franco will also engage with American artist Robert Smithson's installation during the workshop, prompting participants to consider the local geological landscape at Canal Landing Park in Fayetteville.

On Friday, April 5, Franco will activate the museum galleries for a performance of “Scriptorium con Safos: Syracuse” from 2:30-4:30 p.m. This will be followed by a conversation between Franco and Juan Juarez, associate professor of studio arts in the School of Art, from 5-5:30 p.m., culminating in a reception hosted by the museum.

The mini-residency will culminate on Saturday, April 6, with another live performance of “Scriptorium con Safos: Syracuse” from 1-3 p.m. Franco, who is currently overseeing the permanent collection installation at the museum, is looking forward to concluding his time at Syracuse University with this final event.
