Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay expressed deep concern over the delay in finalizing the state budget, as reported on April 12, 2024.

"When it comes to Albany budgets, it’s hard to imagine the level of dysfunction can be eclipsed," stated Barclay as the Assembly passed its second budget extender for the year. He highlighted the ongoing challenges, saying, "the state budget is once again well behind schedule with no end in sight."

Barclay expressed frustration with the current situation, noting that "Three Majority-in-a-room appear to be logjammed in a process that lacks any form of timeliness and transparency." He emphasized the importance of transparency and timely decision-making, especially for stakeholders like public employees, school districts, and municipalities. "Public employees, school districts and municipalities all need to know what the state’s final financial plan will include, but those details are nowhere to be found," he stated.

The delays in finalizing the state budget have raised concerns among stakeholders who rely on the budget for planning and operations. Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay's comments shed light on the challenges faced in Albany's budgeting process and the need for increased efficiency and transparency in decision-making.
